Spot gold price versus jewellery and bullion prices
By GoldPrice.Today · Updated · Editorial policy
An indicative gold reference helps you compare metal values. It is not a promise that a seller will offer a finished bar, coin or jewellery item at that exact price.
Start with the gold content value
Estimate the fine-gold weight by multiplying the item’s net gold-alloy weight by its purity factor. Multiply that fine-gold weight by a reference price in the same currency and unit. This gives a baseline for discussing the quote.
For example, if a hypothetical pure-gold reference is 100 currency units per gram, a 10-gram 18K item contains an estimated 7.5 grams of fine gold and has a baseline metal value of 750 units. The example is illustrative, not a market quote.
Identify what has been added to the reference
- Product premium: manufacturing, distribution and availability can affect a bar or coin price.
- Making charges: a jewellery quote may charge separately for producing the item.
- Other components: stones and non-gold materials may have separate prices.
- Taxes and fees: treatment depends on the location, product and transaction; ask the seller what applies.
Request the complete payable amount rather than comparing only an advertised gram rate. A lower headline rate can come with higher additional charges.
Selling uses a different quote
The dealer’s selling price and buying price can differ. When selling, ask how the buyer calculates the bid, whether the weight includes non-gold parts and what is deducted for testing, refining or other services.
Keep the original purchase price separate from the current buyback offer. This website does not collect individual dealers’ quotes or authenticate products. Its local pages convert a shared reference into local currency, so city names do not imply a survey of shops.
A practical quote checklist
Write down the quote time, currency, weight unit, net weight, purity, reference rate, added charges and final total. For a buyback quote, also record every proposed deduction. Comparing the same set of fields makes differences easier to explain.
